CAG flags failure to penalise food businesses for annual return defaults

A Comptroller and Auditor General audit reportedly found that the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India failed to impose crores of penalties on thousands of food businesses for non-filing or delayed filing of mandatory annual returns between 2017–18 and 2022–23. None had their licences suspended or cancelled as of August 2023.
