Committee formed to review UCPMP and recommend stronger oversight mechanisms

The Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP), through an order dated 22 October 2026, has constituted a committee to review the effectiveness of the existing framework of the Uniform Code for Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices (UCPMP), governing pharmaceutical marketing practices and recommend measures to strengthen its implementation and enforcement. 

The committee will examine the existing monitoring and enforcement mechanisms, identify gaps and recommend measures to improve compliance. It will also consider whether additional statutory, regulatory or other legal measures are necessary. The committee’s recommendations may inform future changes to the regulation and enforcement of pharmaceutical marketing in India.
