FSSAI plans stricter disclosure rules for online food platforms

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is reportedly considering regulatory changes requiring e-commerce and quick-commerce platforms to display manufacturing dates, expiry dates and batch numbers on food product listings. The proposed measures aim to improve consumer transparency, product traceability and food safety across online food supply chains. However, implementation may be challenging due to real-time inventory changes, data integration across sellers and warehouses, and increased technology and compliance costs.
