India proposes first regulatory framework for two-wheeled road ambulances

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has proposed additions of two-wheeled road ambulances Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 to provide emergency response in rural, remote and hilly terrain. The draft introduces uniform safety, construction, registration, and fitness standards to strengthen last-mile emergency medical response. The draft has been opened for a 30-day public consultation period, after which the rules will be finalized.
