Pre-existing stocks need not be recalled under anti-cancer drug trade margin rationalisation: National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), the government body responsible for regulating drug prices in India, has clarified that manufacturers are not required to recall, re-label or re-sticker anti-cancer drug stocks released in the market before implementation of revised maximum retail prices (MRPs), provided they can ensure price compliance at the retailer level.

The clarification forms part of the FAQs issued in connection with the trade margin rationalisation (TMR) exercise for identified non-scheduled anti-cancer medicines. It provides operational relief to manufacturers dealing with pre-existing market inventory, while making clear that the relaxation is conditional on compliance with the revised prices at the retail level.
