Women’s safety advisory calls for stronger workplace protections, safer public spaces and improved survivor support

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued an advisory recommending measures to improve women’s safety at workplaces and public spaces. The recommendations cover sexual harassment awareness, infrastructure, bystander intervention, police response, survivor support, cybercrime and long-term reforms.

The advisory calls for functional Internal and Local Committees under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, and annual submission of inquiry reports to District Officers by enterprises covered under the Act. It also recommends security and safe transport for women working night shifts, alongside gender audits of workplaces and public spaces. The NHRC has requested concerned authorities to submit action-taken reports within two months.
