DCGI seeks explanation from IPC over unapproved drugs listed in National Formulary

The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has reportedly sought an explanation from the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) after the seventh edition of the National Formulary of India (NFI 2026) listed drugs or formulations not approved by CDSCO. The discrepancy involves at least five drugs or variants, including methylene blue, flumazenil, folinic acid, pyridostigmine and alteplase. The issue raises concerns about regulatory verification and the reliability of an authoritative reference used by healthcare professionals for prescribing and administering medicines.
