FSSAI open to warning labels for foods high in even one nutrient

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has told the Supreme Court that it will consider requiring front-of-pack warning labels where a packaged food is high in even one nutrient of concern, such as sugar, salt or fat, moving away from its earlier two-nutrient trigger. The Court has sought further information before deciding the framework. The proposal is not final yet, but food businesses should factor in the possibility of a wider labelling requirement.
