Meta's child safety policy under scrutiny for gaps in handling sexual abuse material

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has decided to initiate a formal inquiry into alleged gaps in Meta’s child safety policies and its handling of child sexual abuse material. The move follows the Commission finding Meta’s response inadequate, with the company’s India head also summoned for questioning. The inquiry can increase compliance scrutiny for social media platforms around child protection, content moderation and the handling of child sexual abuse material in India.
