Attorney-client privilege faces fresh scrutiny in GST searches

The Supreme Court has stayed the Delhi High Court’s directions permitting Goods and Services Tax authorities to examine data seized from an advocate’s office. The Court questioned how investigators could themselves identify and segregate material protected by attorney-client privilege, and issued notice to the Union Government and GST authorities.
