India’s Bihar Consumer Commission holds Doctor liable for reliance solely on ultrasound report

The State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Bihar passed an Order that held gynaecologist liable and to monetarily compensate the patient’s husband after a patient died due to her unborn baby's death in the womb due to medical negligence. The Commission ruled that relying purely on ultrasound reports and ignoring the patient’s symptoms is against the established norm of medical practise and not relied upon alone. The gynaecologist must pay a lumpsum compensation and the cost of litigation with an interest to the patient’s husband.
